Day 369

It's hard to believe that it was snowing in much of the country today. It was another pleasant Fall day in Dallas. The sky was clear and the temperature was seventy-five degrees. The trees in our backyard are finally starting to acquire the beautiful red and gold colors that people further North experienced several months ago. I know there are people in town who are wishing for snow right now, but I'm not one of them. I enjoy these mild Indian Summer days we've been having lately. Last year we did get some snow around this time of year and it was a huge mess. We tend to get ice storms here instead of snow and the roads become a demolition derby. It's bad enough driving in the rain here in Texas, but when the roads ice over, all bets are off. I remember returning from an evening Dalmatian Rescue event last Christmas during an ice storm and I thought I'd never make it home. I"ll leave the snow and ice to my Northern friends. Days like today are much more enjoyable.

There was a new Dalmatian up at K-9 University when we went to walk the dogs today. Her name is Lexi and she's cute as a button. I think this girl is already adopted and is just here temporarily until she goes to the vet and gets all her shots. When we get a small female in the rescue program, they tend to find a home almost immediately. The larger males aren't always so lucky. When you get to know these dogs, you start to wonder why some dogs get picked and others don't. Sometimes extremely nice, well behaved dogs get totally ignored. Other times dogs with serious behavior problems get picked right away. I guess the dog world isn't that different from the people world. Life isn't always fair.

It's hard to believe that Christmas is next week. The year will be over soon. It's always interesting to listen to the politicians and the TV commentators make their predictions about what 's going to happen in the year ahead. I don't think any of them even have a clue. Nobody can predict the future. I don't even know what's going to happen tomorrow.
