Day 2399

I didn't pick a good day to clean the roof. This morning, the skies were clear and it looked like a typical July day. By mid afternoon, the skies had turned dark and ominous and we had another unexpected thunderstorm. My efforts to remove the water from the roof were totally wasted and I had to race to get a bunch of rugs I had drying in the back yard indoors again.

You can probably guess why there were three large rugs drying out in the back yard. I'm beginning to hate weekends because any deviation from Dot's usual schedule is usually a disaster. I tried to get her outside as soon as she woke up this morning, but I wasn't fast enough. When I got her out the back door, I looked behind me and there was a trail of poop all the way from her bed to the door. This wasn't firm, easy to clean poop either. It was a runny mess. The rugs needed to be treated with the enzyme that breaks down the organic material and then sprayed with a pressure hose. These type of accidents happen frequently enough that we have several spare rugs that can be placed on the floor while the wet rugs dry. This cleanup ritual is not one of my favorite things, especially when I'm only half awake and haven't had my morning coffee yet.

I don't know why I decided to get an early start on my Saturday errands today. I filled the car with gas, picked up some prescriptions, and finished my grocery shopping well before noon. That left plenty of time to clear the water off the roof and try to catch up on the sleep that eluded me last night. I was tired and a ten minute cat nap turned into a two hour snooze. When I woke up, I turned on the TV and it appeared like the city was in lockdown again. There was apparently a suspicious person inside the police headquarters garage along with a verbal threat delivered over the police radio system by someone that was not on the force. How could a stranger gain access to the police radio system? Your guess is as good as mine.

I'm thinking about buying a steam cleaner to deal with accidents on the rugs. I looked at a few on Amazon this afternoon, but the reviews didn't inspire me with much confidence. It appeared that these machines were more difficult to use and don't typically perform as well as most people expect. I used to depend on online reviews but I've learned recently that some manufactures have started to give their products away for free to a select group of people in exchange for a good review. It doesn't take long for money to corrupt the system, does it? I've got to do some more research, but a steam cleaner still seems like a better alternative to the cleaning methods I'm using now.

These weeks go by so quickly now. I guess I'll go to the gym tomorrow. It all depends on how much unexpected cleaning Dot adds to the agenda. Today's Dalmatian of the Day was one of ours. Greta was very sick when we adopted her, but we did the best we could and managed to give her two good years. That was all the time she had. I measure time by the number of little urns on our coffee table now.
