Like most rainy days, today was fairly uneventful. I did find out from SpaceFlight Magazine that they want me to cover the Artemis 1 launch. I still have to get press accreditation on my own though. I guess I have plenty of time. The launch isn't taking place until early 2022 now. There will be other interesting launches before then, but I don't think I can afford to go to Florida that often. It's been an expensive year.
It was kind of neat to see William Shatner go to space this morning on Blue Origin's rocket out in West Texas. The guy is 90 years old. I guess there's still hope for folks in their mid 70's. I'd never have the nerve to go into orbit like the Inspiration 4 crew did recently, but riding in Jeff Bezos little rocket seems pretty safe. That rocket is probably safer than riding a rickety old roller coaster at the state fair. I've ridden in a small helicopter without doors and once in an open cockpit biplane, but that was when I was much younger and didn't have any sense. These days driving to the grocery store is about all the danger I can handle.
My allergies were terrible today. It's weird how the symptoms come and go. Just two days ago I had no problems whatsoever. I guess it just depends on what is blowing around in the air. The combination of a dripping nose, watering eyes, and extremely high humidity made today's walks less than idyllic. I kept walking though. I've convinced myself that's I've got to keep moving.
I keep getting distracted by the sounds of rain on the roof. About every ten minutes I go check for signs of roof leaks and then go out on the back porch to see if the pumps are still working. So far, so good. It would be nice to live in a fancy high rise where I wouldn't have to worry about things like this. I'd probably just worry about something else though. It's just my nature. Unlike some of our other dogs, Dawn doesn't worry about thunder and lightning at all. She's sound asleep on the bed right now.
The only thing on my calendar are doctor's appointments. I need to see the dermatologist, the urologist, the eye doctor, my primary care physician, and the guys who are going to do my colonoscopy. There's nothing wrong. It's just that all my annual exams seem to happen in the Fall. The eye doctor appointment is usually my easiest exam, but I'm not looking forward to this one. I'm almost sure the doctor is going to tell me it's time for cataract surgery.
The rain keeps getting heavier. This would probably be a good time to curl up with a book. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get interested in reading anymore. The shelves in my office are filled with hundreds of books and I've read every one of them. Oddly I have no desire to add to this little library. I should just re-read the books I already have. I can't remember what half of them are about anyway.
